Indianola Community School District offers strings (violin, viola, cello, and bass) education starting in 5th grade. Students continue to participate in orchestra throughout middle school, where orchestra meets every-other day, and students perform several concerts during the school year. 


In high school orchestra meets daily and fulfulls the fine arts credit requirement for graduation. High School students participating in orchestra perform in numerous concerts throughout the school year, as well as State Large Group Contest in May.  High School students also have the opportunity to participate in many additional activities, such as: Homecoming Window Painting, All-State Festival, Iowa Junior Honors Orchestra Festival, Simpson College/Community Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Solo/Ensemble Contest, pit ensemble for the Spring Musical, and other alternative styles based on student interest (past examples include mariachi, bluegrass, and electric strings).
